TIGER in the WOODS?

Everyone knows whats going on with Tiger Woods. But I am totally surprised with the public reaction to these happenings.

Don't get me wrong. No way am I supporting or approving whatever he has done. He has let his family down. Period.

But what I am unable to understand is, who are we to question him, ridicule him, mock him and humiliate him. There is so much negative media spotlight on him. There are Christmas cards, Christmas carols and songs written on him. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is making fun of him on radio talk shows and TV shows.

He is one of the best golfers ever and someone who was a role model to millions until last month. He was regarded as one of the best sportsmen from the US. An able testament to his class was that he recently featured in a Gillette ad with Roger Federer, Derek Jeter and Rahul Dravid. He is a partner in Tag Heuer as well.

He was made a hero by the people because he was very good at his profession. He gave it back to the society as well with umpteen charities to the needy ones.

According to me, TW is answerable only to his family. Everyone else is immaterial.

Who are we to make fun of such a great player? What have we achieved to point fingers at such a legend? Probably, the answer to this Q lies in another Q -- How much media attention do you want when you do a mistake?

I feel publicity (good and bad) go hand in hand... The same media makes "God" out of a person in good times... Whether the same person deserves to be made God is something to wonder. TW basked in the glory of positive media and it’s but obvious that he has to face the negative side of it too.

No question TW is one of the greatest athletes of our time. He was aptly recognized as the Athlete of the Decade by the AP. Nobody is questioning his skill, attitude, dedication, discipline as a sportsperson. Media and others are focusing on his "character". What makes all this media attention a fair game is projection of himself as a "family" guy and his squeaky clean image outside of the golf. Many of his sponsors bought into his "clean character" and "family guy" bogus. TW as a person (not as a sportsperson) has made him earn millions. Now its all out in the public that he is not after all what he has been projecting himself as. This what has ticked the media and the public.

I agree with you Nikhil. Thats why I skip all channels, all media thats on him. I do not even know the details and I do not even want to know. Victory has many fathers but defeat is an orphan.
